This post is going to be a little different. I'd like to dedicate it to an artist we lost today. Too young. Too soon.
Thoughts, prayers, energy, light, and love go out to the family, friends, loved ones, and fans of the late Adam Yauch. Known to so many as MCA. Rest in peace, sir.
I was reading a few articles today, courtesy of Twitter and the Huffington Post. I didn't know much about the man. In fact, I've never been a huge Beastie Boys fan. Calm down now! Its not that I didn't like the music. I know and appreciate a lot of the hits...but I've never really delved into it. Generationaly (and geographically), I may have just missed it. However, I saw this outpouring of emotion on various social media sites and wanted to learn a little more about this guy. I read something that struck a chord with me, a quote from an interview he did with Project Happiness last year. I would like for his words to be today's post.
"Everything we do affects other people. One doesn’t have to be doing something that has some huge sweeping change on a lot of people at one time. Every way that we interact with other people, even if it’s like, you’re at the store and buying something, and it’s the way that you interact with the clerk at the store. EVERY action that we take has some motivation of either being selfish or altruistic. All that adds up. I’ve heard the Dalai Lama talk about how it’s important to watch your thoughts. Thoughts are what lead to actions. If you are striving to have more happiness in your life, it helps to guide your mind towards starting to recognize what are selfish motivations and what are constructive motivations. The more you look at that and recognize it, the more that’s going to influence your actions."
Day 94: I am grateful for life. For each and every breath I am given. I am grateful for those who have dedicated their lives to fighting cancer. I am grateful for musicians who share their gifts with the world.
