Day 29

"Utah! Get me two!"

Angelo Pappas - Point Break

The rundown of a very close to perfect Sunday:

Last night we celebrated my dear friend Jenn's birthday. We did so by heading down to the Hermosa Saloon and catching the Bad Dudes show. (The Bad Dudes are a cover band that Mike plays with and they are....well...BAD!) We danced the night away with a group of spectacular people then headed home, where me, Jenn, Mike, Kat, and the famous Bogey stayed up talking about life, health, the past, the future, and everything under the sun. It was wonderful.

After a very groggy morning due to our lack of sleep...dragging ourselves to a late breakfast and driving Bogey back to Hermosa (from which we had abducted him the night before), we tried to figure out what to do with the rest of our day.

Then things got awesome....

Mike and I had passed several Taco Bells on the way to and from Hermosa that morning. The seed was planted. I know...Taco Bell...not the best life choice, but we don't do it often...hardly at all...and sometimes you need to run for the border. We shared this idea with Kat and Jenn and it was decided. This would be a family dinner.

Right as we were getting ready to leave, Mike went to our DVR to look for Point Break...on a whim...just to check. Now, what you should know is...Kat has never seen Point Break (sinner!). For the past few months, we have been searching for it. Best buy only had blue ray, nothing on netflix, not for sale anywhere, and we were about a day away from buying it online. Its been kind of a thing in our house. I can't stress this enough. We have had Point Break on the brain...and it was nowhere to be found. I don't know what moved Mike to check for it in that very moment...but he did. We all watched the tv as he performed the DVR search...then we see 3 movie listings...

Point Blank....awwww, boo.
Point Blank...awww, BOO!

Right as we're assuming that the third was also "Point Blank"...my eyes dart back and I scream....

POINT BREAK!! 5:00!!!

It was in slow motion as my eyes traveled from the movie listing to the clock at the top of the screen. Then we saw it. The time? 4:59. Could it be? YES! Not only was Point Break on today...TODAY...it was on in 1 single minute. We had caught it with just one minute to spare. As it sank in, we all started hooping and hollering. After all the searching, how in the world did this just randomly happen on this Sunday afternoon. Truly a moment of "wow."

It was the most wonderful lazy Sunday joy. We hit record on the DVR, headed out the door, and recapped our good fortune. I was about to veg out, eat Taco Bell, and watch Point Break...with 3 of my favorite humans on the planet...and one wonderful dog. Not to mention, they let me listen to Garth Brooks all the way to Taco Bell and back. If you know me....you know that I was beaming from ear to ear.

It may sound like a silly chain of events...and most definitely not everyone's idea of an amazing Sunday. But at that moment, with those people, the night before, and the week ahead...it was just what we needed.

Day 29: I am grateful for lazy Sunday afternoons. To the friends who share them with me. Grateful for happy accidents and moments of "wow." The moments where everything just falls together and you can truly kick back, relax, and enjoy a very close to perfect day.
